Level 2 SKILLED ASSISTANCE

Introduction – We train the RAD Dog in a minimum of three skills to assist in your Mental Health recovery.

What symptom or problem do you have that you need help from your dog with? Choose one of the following or share one of your own:

  • Having a panic attack or feeling disassociated - Find a person – barking on cue

  • Improving mood or stability - Retrieving and carrying, playing

  • Comfort for anxiety or panic attacks- touching or nudging, deep therapy massage.

  • Fear in the community or of people - Getting your dog to position itself – backing, blocking, side and front, under and backing.

  • Mobility problems - Brace – for support and help with mobility problems. (Use shoulders, legs apart)

  • Social Inclusion - Dress – helping you get up. Sleeping and Waking – nudge.

  • Protection from fear - Open and closing doors, doing a room search, barking on cue

  • Memory problems – reminders to take medication (nudge with alarm).

  • Modelling good behaviour – staying calm, coming between you and the challenging situation, touch.
