One Stop Shop Funding for
RECOVERY Mental Health Charity
The Manager Jim Gough and Store Team from One Stop in Grasmere Street were extremely proud to present a cheque for £997 to RECOVERY Charity for Mental Health. As a local convenience store serving the local community Liz Maitland, Director and Founder Member of RECOVERY, says "the money will help with Marketing Opportunities to help raise awareness about the wonderful job that RECOVERY Assistance Dogs do to help Survivors of Mental Health problems to recover and keep out of hospital."
Leicester City Council offered grants to RECOVERY as a local employer who can provide paid work placements to 18-24 year olds within priority employment sectors.
RECOVERY had 3 Young Employees in 2014 working as Youth Workers and RECOVERY Youth Assistant Dog Trainers.
In 2015 we have funding two young employees as Finance Co-Ordinator and RECOVERY Assistance Dogs Co-Ordinator for 6 months.
Thank-You to Step Up

This month we have been lucky enough to have been chosen to be a part of the John Lewis Community Matters project. So far, we are doing really well, but with your help we could do much better.
The way in which you can help is by going to the John Lewis Cafe, which serves a delicious variety of hot and cold meals, cakes and pastries, and a range of drinks which is ideal for the whole family. Then once you have paid for your drink or food, you can ask for a green counter which you can then put into the box that is for RECOVERY. All the money collected will go to a good cause to help survivors from Mental Health recover from their problems with the help of Assistance Dogs.
Please do visit the cafe and donate to a really good cause.
John Lewis Community Matters

This ‘Near Neighbours Animation’ project will bring three different faith communities together to create an animated film using the medium of stop frame animation. This medium can take advantage of the wide variety of skills that the participants can bring to the table including story, artwork, modelmaking, animation, voice acting and soundtrack.
After 8 years of supporting survivors in RECOVERY in Leicester we know that in the Highfields area many are being isolated because of Mental Health issues. Our plan is to help neighbours who live locally with social inclusion needs to meet in a supportive environment. This will enable them to make progress in personal choices and take a fuller part in the life of the community.
We will discuss mental health issues common to people and look at how different faiths consider mental wellbeing. The practical process to make the film will include:
- sharing some ways that our faith has helped us to recover our Mental Health.
- Writing a script that reflects in our own life how faith has helped
- Drawing pictures and a story board about faith in our lives
- Making plasticine models
- Training in using our voices
- Filming the models in movement to make the films
- Choosing the best animated films for the introduction to a Docu-drama.
- Showing the films at a launch for the new film.

RECOVERY Gets Growing Project
RECOVERY is taking part in Leicester city council's food plan to develop food growing across Leicester city by enabling and encouraging it's volunteers and survivors to grow their own food on the Saffron Acres, near Aylestone Road, on Thursday afternoons between 1:.30pm and 3:30pm.
